According to the game maker, it’s because 1) they needed a sabatical 2) they have been waiting for the technology to catch up to their vision. Hummmm… sounds like pretty lousy excuses to me. Capcom need to find better talent to work on this worthy franchise empire of a game. Who in their mid 20’s and up have not played SF? How Capcom let almost a whole generation pass them by is beyond me.

So, enough bagging on the game maker. What is new with version IV? Well, let’s start with the fighters. They brought back the orginal heros and villains from SF II, which is a good thing because I couldnt stand the new characters in III and alpha. And of course, they added 4 new characters. I have to say I am pretty disappointed with the new casts and their cheesy storylines. I mean c’mon, 10 years and these are the best you can come up with. A eating-disorder fat-ass, a mystery woman in a bionic suit, a psycho redneck, and a masked Mexican wrestler who likes to cook. Whaa, hold me down. I can’t wait to play as one of these stereotypes. At least make the chick lose some cloth, why not a bionic swim suit instead of body suit. Are the new fighters supposed to bring comic relief to this game? In that case, I would suggest making the wrestler into a midget, making the fattie also a drag queen, making the redneck tell redneck jokes between rounds, and oh ya make the chick into a stipper who pole dances when she wins. I think I would play her then.

On to the game graphics. I like the combat movements that put the orginal on the map. Everything looks smooth and the slight hint of 3D is refereshing. I dont consider the game itself 3D because it’s pretty much still a horizonal and vertical playing field. Compared to another fighting hit, Tekken, I feel Tekken pushed the 3D concept much further. It’s a matter of preference but I wish SF had more 3D movements as opposed to just camera effect. The revenge meter is reminescent of the previous power bar in SF Alpha. I am not a big fan of that either, probably because I am a cheap skate in the arcade and that power bar seriously cuts into the play time. The brief animation pause before a super move is enjoyable but would seem like it would get old after a while. There are definitely more glorious blood spill and bone crunching violence. The fighting moves are more exaggerated. The battle scenes are supposed to be more awe inspiring. I dont think anyone would play the game just to look at the background. New super combos are promised. The key for lasting appeal is for the game to be balanced and counter moves well designed, so it’s not 2 back to back super combos and the fight is over.

Bottomline, I will buy this game for the nostalgic factor more than anything else. The game can be pre-ordered and shipped in 2/2009. Is it worth the wait? I certainly hope so. FIGHT.

Xbox 360!!!

If there was a winner out of the big three console games, Sony’s PSP, Nintendo Wii and Microsoft’s XBOX 360, Microsoft would be one at this year’s E3 convention. Microsoft’s achievements were more innovative and held more substance. Sony and Nintendo’s announcements and enhancments appeared to be more smoke and mirrors than anything else. There was nothing of true significance or nothing new that was not already known prior or rumored prior. Let’s sum things up.

#1. Mircosoft
XBOX Live - online gaming - games with interactive play from players all over the US.
NetFlix will start streaming movies directly into the console.
Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIII will now be availalbe to be played on the XBOX. This game used to be exclusive to only the PS’s.

#2, Sony
Sony announced that they will be coming out with a new 80gb model at $399, the same price as the previous models but at half the memory! what da!

#3 Nintendo
Announced a slew of games that are basic and standard. Nothing revolutionary.
Announced an enhance Wii controller

Do not perform updates using any data other than the official update data provided by Sony Computer Entertainment over a network or on disc media, and do not perform updates by methods other than those described in the product documentation or in this site. If an update is performed using data from another source, by another method, or with a PSP system that has been altered or modified in any way, the PSP system may not operate properly and may not be able to install the official update data. Any of these actions may void the PSP system warranty and affect your ability to obtain warranty services and repair services from Sony Computer Entertainment.”
